Another reason to buy a GM car
The Snap's a little irritating at first glance, but I'll have to give it more time to come to a final decision.
Econtalk via myblogtunes is an excellent addition.
Perhaps you'd want to consider changing its location on the page so it is viewable as soon as people visit.
Randomscrub,
I lean that way, too, but check out the link to the Periodic Table in the previous post. I'd love to have a nice picture of it like Boing Boing does but I don't have time. So Snap gives you a taste of how cool it might be. But it might be annoying. Not sure yet, either.
Love the Snap feature!
I wish the Widget or below the widget had a quick popup for downloading pas EconTalk shows. I download and then bluetooth them over to my cell phone for listening at my leisure.
I don't use them, because I read your site via Bloglines.
Russ,
Love the Snap feature and the searchability. The Snap is nice because I used to do a rollover and look at my bottom navbar to see where the link is going to (e.g. an author's webpage or an amazon.com link). Don't care much for the Top 5 links.
Thanks!
Brad,
I'll see if I can find such a widget that will do that.
What kind of cell phone do you have?
I also listen to your podcasts via cellphone. Currently I have an LG-vx8300. I put the podcast on a MicroSD card and use headphones.
I feel that the site is a bit crowded on the margins. There is too much going on there that distracts the eyes. The search feature is not really necessary at the top, and most people know that by using site:cafehayek.typepad.com in google you can search the blog.
While I love econtalk, I don't think using that widget would be the best way to go about promoting it. Better to put links to the lastest shows in the margin that will stream it through their media player.
One nice way to unclutter the blog woud be to have the width autosize to the browser window, that way people can utilize more of their screen. This would mean eliminating the blue backround. Instead, I would use this blue as you background color only for the margins, so it clearly delineates where the news stories are and where additinal information is.
Love the blog, thanks for your work.
I have a Sanyo M1. I got it because it has a 2 megapixel camera, but love the media player on it the most. I'm a big Mac guy and a big iPod guy, so I probably should feel like I'm betraying my best friend, but this thing is great for podcasts. I just load it up using Bluetooth File Exchange every morning and have stuff to listen to all day wherever I am. It plays unencrypted MP3, AAC, etc. either out headphones or out the speakerphone. I prefer the latter. It's super convenient with Bluetooth. No wires to connect. No drive to safely unmount, no convoluted syncing process, etc. Only downside is that I have an iPod centric sound system in my car, and it doesn't do Bluetooth. I hear that next year's models will...
The search engine is good! I added it to my blog instantly. The Snap thing is nothing but an annoyance, though, in my never-to-be-humble opinion.
Search is the most useful feature for me. I've been wishing that you would add it for some time.
I don't know about others, but I read the site from a feed aggregator, so I haven't noticed any of the changes. At a glance while I'm commenting, the Snap feature loads too slowly to be useful. But the picture box still pops up, making it kind of an annoyance.
All good additions.
Please add a longer delay for the snap-popups.
I don't like the snap feature AT ALL. I find it disconcerting to have the little snap windows opening up--on all by themselves--as I move my cursor about the page. I wonder what Jakob Nielsen (http://www.useit.com/) would say about snap?
Like the features.
Snap is impossibly annoying. It's hard to get anything out of value from such a small window, and it interferes with navigation through the page.
The dashed lines should be between comments.
The posting info is already distinguished by the bold formatting and the lead: Posted by:
Like the rollover of snap to see the link, but unless I buy a 48 inch monitor, the pop-up is not very useful.
I fear and distrust all new things, especially Snap . . .
I like the idea of lengthening the delay for the Snap pop-ups, though. I think that would do the trick.
The Snap feature is more than a little annoying.
The search feature is nice.
The Podcasts need a better outlet.
Thanks for the blog.
As Craig said,
"Search is the most useful feature for me. I've been wishing that you would add it for some time."
I agree! It's the most useful.
Snap is very annoying, especially if you accidentaly happen to move your mouse over a link, and out jumps some nasty window.
If it is not removed, making the time until the pop-up happens larger is an intelligent choice.
